Before towing any type of car you should make a few safety checks to ensure the safety of yourselves and other road users. Tow straps should be inspected for any signs of abrasion or damage before use. Only use a dedicated and approved tow strap and never use a chain or standard rope as this is dangerous.
The car to be towed should clearly display an ON TOW sign in its rear window to alert other road users of the situation. Some tow straps come with these signs or you can clearly write or print your own for the purpose.
The ignition of the car to be towed should be turned on in order to prevent the steering lock from coming on and to activate the power steering. Attach the tow strap to each vehicle using the tow hooks provided on the vehicle. The vehicle to be towed should ALWAYS be manned. So ensure both you and the other driver are ready before starting to move.
Carefully use clutch control to slowly take up the tension in the tow strap. Once tension is felt continue to move away slowly remembering to avoid any sudden moves or jerky driving. Avoid any sudden braking by driving slowly and smoothly in order to prevent the tow strap from breaking.
